IDF SCURRIES BACK TO THE SUBURBS
Many cities in the United States have high murder rates. Typically the murders take place in fairly well defined parts of such cities. It isn't unusual for an American city to have a around a hundred murders a year, usually from gun related violence.
Of course, the rocketing of Israel by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other resistance organizations never killed anything close to a hundred Israelis. The deaths and injuries are quite limited, far less than the self-inflicted violence we see here in a typical large city here in the United States.
The apolitical violence of the United States is different than the political violence in Israel-Palestine. Still, we can wonder why law enforcement is the solution in the situation where violence is so much more lethal than the rocket fire into Israel.
Without prettifying U.S. law enforcement we can say with confidence that if these U. S. homicide neighborhoods were to be bombed by the U. S. Air Force and laid waste by the U. S. Army the consequences would be like those in Gaza. Obviously it would be a very stupid idea. The Israelis often seem to think they have been so smart in invading and bombing and starving Gaza. I disagree. They are stupid and wrong!
What if it was the U. S. Army returning to the suburbs today after laying waste to American inner cities? The excuses would be similar. "We have degraded the ability of the inner city residents to kill each other and we will be back if they do it again." That would we nutty and criminal, just as it is in Israel-Palestine.
I just saw that the Israeli invaders completely destroyed one Palestinian village in Gaza. I wonder what the fate of the residents was? Now, the same Israeli Defense Forces are scurrying back to their opulent suburban homes. The three week war on the Palestinians was something of a hobby for the IDF forces doing the killing. Now it is time to play "American dream" in the so-called "holy land". Is anything wrong with this picture? I certainly don't think the United States should be paying a dime to make this brutality and unjust privilege continue.
Is Israel more secure? I sincerely doubt it since the slaughter of 1300 Palestinians is likely to radicalize all Gaza in the sense that few will be able to make a moral argument against revenge attacks. Does Israel want to keep this war going? If so the brutalization of Gaza is likely to inspire
attacks on Israel that may kill many.
It seems to me that killing 1300 Palestinians will lead to the death of more Israelis. I don't get the logic of the invasion. It just made things worse for everyone. Too bad for everyone. Maybe we should stop supporting religious fanaticism in any form.
